Objetivos: O presente estudo teve como objetivos: identificar, sob a ótica de terapeutas ocupacionais que atuam em iniciativas de geração de trabalho e renda, no âmbito da saúde mental, os desafios implicados no desenvolvimento da prática nestes espaços, e verificar como estes profissionais compreendem a vinculação destas iniciativas à economia solidária e a vinculação desta à sua prática. Método: Trata-se de um estudo de abordagem qualitativa, do qual participaram 16 terapeutas ocupacionais que atuam em iniciativas de geração de trabalho e renda, no âmbito da saúde mental, localizadas no estado de São Paulo. Para a coleta de dados, utilizou-se um questionário semiestruturado e um roteiro de entrevista semiestruturado. Os dados provenientes do questionário foram analisados de maneira descritiva e as entrevistas, submetidas à Técnica de Análise Temática. Resultados: Os resultados evidenciam que as profissionais lidam com demandas que dizem respeito à administração da iniciativa e de tudo o que permeia a estruturação e a execução da produção, envolvendo núcleos de conhecimento que extrapolam o arcabouço teórico deste profissional e que, por vezes, representa dificuldades. Ainda, apontam haver vinculação da iniciativa à economia solidária, bem como a importância da apropriação dos princípios desta economia pelas profissionais. Considerações finais: Aponta-se a necessidade de maiores reflexões e produções em torno das potencialidades que podem emergir da parceria entre economia solidária e terapia ocupacional, visto que tal parceria pode elucidar e fortalecer novas possibilidades de proposição de trabalhos inclusivos no âmbito da saúde mental.
