Introdução: As Diretrizes Brasileiras de Atenção à Saúde da Pessoa Amputada preconizam protocolos de assistências pré-cirúrgicas até pós-protetização. Objetivo: Contextualizar serviços e protocolos hospitalares pré- e pós-amputação, e avaliar o processo de encaminhamento da pessoa amputada para a reabilitação e protetização pelo Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS), seguido da pós-alta hospitalar. Método: Pesquisa qualitativa descritiva, realizada com 23 profissionais, inclusive médicos, fisioterapeutas, nutricionistas, enfermeiro e técnicos de enfermagem, realizada por meio de uma entrevista semiestruturada. A coleta de dados foi realizada nos meses de junho e julho de 2015, e entre abril e maio de 2016. Resultados: Os procedimentos da fase pré-cirúrgica estiveram relacionados ao termo de consentimento, avaliação do membro a ser amputado e orientações a seguir. A realização da cirurgia e a eleição do nível da amputação dependem do nível da lesão vascular, do trauma ou em outros casos da infecção. No pós-cirúrgico, avaliou-se no coto alguns sinais e/ou sintomas: curativo, presença de espículas ósseas, processo de cicatrização, dor fantasma e mobilidade. O termo curativo e atadura foram citados como sinônimo de enfaixamento do coto. Com relação às orientações no ambiente hospitalar e para alta foram indicados alguns protocolos, tais como: cuidados com o coto, enfaixamento compressivo com faixa elástica, posicionamento e encaminhamentos para a reabilitação. Os serviços e protocolos hospitalares seguem as Diretrizes Brasileiras, porém condutas como avaliação e tratamento da dor no coto e da dor fantasma, e também o enfaixamento compressivo devem ser incentivadas e praticadas. Incertezas relatadas pelos profissionais foram relativas ao encaminhamento à reabilitação pré- e pós-protetização. Conclusão: Os resultados deste estudo repercutem diretamente na pessoa amputada, pois o recebimento de direcionamentos precisos facilita o processo de reabilitação de forma mais rápida e eficaz.
