El presente artículo busca describir y analizar una comprensión de ocupación como objeto y herramienta. Esto, basado en el constante esfuerzo, en terapia ocupacional, por clarificar sus fundamentos teóricos y definir su campo de acción. En este contexto, surge la crítica de que comprender a la ocupación como un objeto podría conducir a una noción cosificada de la experiencia ocupacional humana, distorsionando el horizonte original de la disciplina. Por lo tanto, se concluye, en primer lugar, que entender a la ocupación en cuanto “cosa”, lleva a comprenderla como un objeto inerte, aislado de la experiencia humana. En segundo lugar, bajo la pretensión de acceder a un modo de comprensión que permita acceder al fenómeno de la ocupación en íntima relación con la existencia del ser humano en su vida cotidiana, se considera, desde el pensamiento de Martin Heidegger, la posibilidad de comprender, de una manera “viva”, a la ocupación humana.
