En el presente artículo abordamos la cuestión acerca de la pertinencia de la consideración de la Terapia Ocupacional, específicamente desde una comprensión de ser humano ocupacional existencial, bajo los principios del Modelo Biopsicosocial. Aquí se discute que, una noción de ocupación que se entiende como aquella estructura fenoménica que permite el existir del ser humano en el mundo no es complementaria con una comprensión de ser humano fragmentaria y sistémica, como la propone el Modelo Biopsicosocial. Además, cabe señalar que éste no toma en cuenta al fenómeno de la ocupación como un aspecto a considerar en su entendido de ser humano, así como tampoco en su noción de salud y enfermedad. Es así que, de esta forma, el diálogo que se desarrolla entre ambas consideraciones nos lleva a concluir que éstas, debido a radicales diferencias ontológicas, se contradicen. De esta forma, una Terapia Ocupacional que mantiene el centro de su identidad desde una noción existencial de ser humano ocupacional, no resulta ser pertinente bajo los principios del Modelo Biopsicosocial.
