Este estudo aborda uma discussão sobre acessibilidade atitudinal, que é um recurso de grande importância para auxiliar pessoas com deficiência no exercício de sua cidadania. O estudo teve por objetivo realizar uma reflexão sobre como as pessoas com deficiência e sem deficiência percebem, enfrentam e/ou entendem as barreiras atitudinais. A pesquisa apresenta caráter qualitativo, por meio de intervenções de grupo focal. Para coleta de dados foram organizados dois grupos: um constituiu-se por pessoas com deficiência e outro por pessoas sem deficiência. A realização da coleta de dados ocorreu no início do semestre letivo de 2012. As informações foram coletadas a partir de um roteiro estruturado. Para uma melhor apresentação das discussões dos grupos, foram criadas três categorias, uma para as pessoas com deficiência e duas para as pessoas sem deficiência. Durante o estudo observou-se que as barreiras arquitetônicas são um grande problema enfrentado pelas pessoas com deficiência, as barreiras atitudinais
não são visíveis como as barreiras físicas, na maioria das vezes, são inconscientes, e de difícil reconhecimento por
parte de quem as pratica. Considera-se que o desconhecimento é a base para o avanço das barreiras atitudinais e que
o terapeuta ocupacional é um profissional que, além de trabalhar as potencialidades e habilidades da pessoa com
deficiência, também irá estimular a integração social, respeitando a subjetividade de cada indivíduo e o contexto
no qual ele está inserido.
