Uma luz no final do túnel do conhecimento: a chegada da terapia ocupacional na cidade de São Paulo/A light at the end of the tunnel of knowledge: the arrival of occupational therapy in the city of Sao Paulo

Relato a minha trajetória acadêmica e profissional, marcada pela chegada da terapia ocupacional na
cidade de São Paulo. Os fatos revelam os desafios enfrentados em vários momentos e em diferentes períodos
dessa história. Formada em Pedagogia, desejava trabalhar e continuar estudando. Com a divulgação de um curso
de Terapia Ocupacional no Instituto de Reabilitação da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo,
interessei-me e conheci a Terapia Ocupacional que, em São Paulo, era chamada de Laborterapia. Isso aconteceu
face às consequências da epidemia de poliomielite na década de 1950, cujo cuidado diferenciado aos pacientes era
uma emergência, não contando entretanto com profissionais especializados para a sua reabilitação. Com isso, vieram
dos Estados Unidos técnicos de reabilitação, inclusive o terapeuta ocupacional, formando profissionais no país. O
Instituto de Reabilitação da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo abriu o primeiro curso de Terapia
Ocupacional, com duração de dois anos. Ingressei já na Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo, onde
permaneci por 32 anos como docente. Carrego fatos que marcaram minha vida profissional, sempre lutando pelo
desenvolvimento da Terapia Ocupacional. Em 1997, me aposentei e fui, a convite dos camilianos, abrir o curso de
terapia ocupacional no Centro Universitário São Camilo, onde atuei como coordenadora por 14 anos, até 2011. Dali
ingressei no Programa de Pós-graduação Stricto Sensu em Bioética do Centro Universitário São Camilo. O relato
da minha trajetória traz, de forma articulada, a história do início da Terapia Ocupacional no Estado de São Paulo.
